Just quit smoking after half a pack a day for 10 years (cold turkey). What are my chances of future diseases?

I'm 24, male, and in pretty good physical health.
Answer:
Actually, no one really knows. If you're in pretty good health, keep up the good work. Watch out for weight gain (it's probably just as bad for you) and find a healthy way to deal with stress!Smoking increases the chances of all those diseases, but doesn't guarantee you'll get them. One factor I haven't heard too much about is genetics; some people are just genetically built for better health than others. Quitting now is reducing your risk; congratulations. I've known people who lived into their 90's who were 2 packs a day for over 50 years without getting any of the "smoking diseases". These men also were very active and in good physical health. My granddad lived into his mid 70's and smoked 2 packs a day for 52 years; the complications of being overweight is what killed him - he had no smoking diseases.
well most likely youll get lung cancer cause u smoked so long, emphazema and all the other stuff that comes with it
I quit at the beginning of this year after smoking a pack a day for 14 years. The longer you a non-smoker the chance of future diseases (caused by smoking) are greatly reduced.
After 1 year the possibility of a heart attack decreases by 50% At 10 years of non smoking it is like you have never smoked.Good luck at quitting.
