Kidney failure caused by mri?

Answer:
Most of these answers are correct. As a Registered MRI technologist I will tell you that The Scan itself has no harmful effects known at this time. However the contrast agents that are used such as gadodimeglumine or gadodiomide have shown in studies recently that kidney failure is absolutely a possibility but is less then 1% of all patients. Any time you inject a foreign substance into your system there is a risk of some kind of reaction. Just read the long list of possible side affects on any of your prescription medication. This is also true for any X-ray or CT examination. Most people 99.1% have no adverse reactions to any of these things but the chance still exists. Technologists and Dr. ask about allergies etc for a reason. Always be as accurate and honest about allergies and medications that you are or have taken in the past. These help determine whether or not you get the contrast.
I ONCE WAS REFUSED TO BE GIVEN AN MRI BECAUSE I AM A DIABETIC AND I DRINK GLUCOPHAGE,(METFORMIN) AND BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE THAT EFFECT, THE DID NOT DO THE MRI.
What I am able to discern from your very limited question is that , can an MRI cause kidney failure? Ain,t possible. No how,no way. An MRI has nothing to do with the kidneys, unless, of course you are referring to the contrast dye that they sometimes use with an MRI, but even that is unlikley to cause kidney failure. I would love to know why you asked this question.
MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging. Magnet . The magnet rearranges all the cells, (as realigns to north and south), and as they return to normal, takes pictures. If the pattern is not normal, they find where any abnormality is.
If they use a dye, that's the only part of the MRI that could have any effect on the kidneys. You could be allergic to the dye, but I've never heard of anyone having damaged kidney from it.
I have had over 30 MRI studies, read everything I could on them, talked to multiple technicians and doctors. The truth is MRIs are one of the safest imaging techniques. The dyes could maybe cause some issues but only if your kidneys are already harmed and if you have a side effect. The likely-hood of this happening is less than rare.
If I haven't had any problem they won't give you any.
